More About Our Oysters

oysters sold in Melbourne FLOysters are the delicacy of the sea. In an early article, we discussed how oysters are raised. In this article I would like to share with you the type of oysters we offer and where they come from.

We offer three types of oysters for your eating pleasure:

Gulf Oysters

The Gulf that the name is referring to is the Gulf of Mexico. Some of the largest oyster reefs on the planet are in the Gulf and particularly off the coast of Louisiana. Most of the oysters consumed in the southern United States are Gulf Oysters, which is a strain of Eastern Oyster (Crassostrea virginica). Summer Fare from Bunky’s Seafood Restaurant

The summer is about half way over and there is still plenty of fun to be had. Surfing, volleyball, picnicking and just about anything outdoors is a fun way to spend your lazy summer afternoon. Visiting the Area? Check Out Paradise Beach

Paradise Beach FLMelbourne has its share of tourists but we are not a huge tourist destination. The tourists that do come here tend to come back because of the laid back, “beach town” atmosphere. You never get caught in long traffic jams and you are literally 15 minutes from anywhere you want to go.

There are little gems of fun to be found in and around our area. Today, we will discuss one that is right across the street from our restaurant, Paradise Beach!

This popular outlet has been used for many decades even before the park was created. Early settlers to the area used this area to stage camp and access the ocean. The city of Indiatlantic zoned this spot to keep it a park and recreation area. It now features free parking, bathrooms, picnic tables, are showers to wash sand off your body. Four our friendly tourists, just hanging at the beach and sipping drinks at the bar is usually enough. It is the ability to get away from their home life and enjoy the sun and a new setting. We love having visitors from all over the United States dine with us.

Raw Oysters, Where Do They Come From?

Many people love eating raw oysters. Some people like eating them but have reservations because they don’t know where they come from. The simple answer is that 95% of raw oysters you see on the market come from oyster farms. This doesn’t mean that they are on a farm somewhere in Nebraska. The oyster farms are located on ocean inlets so that the oysters can be managed and harvested more efficiently. It is actually a really neat process.

Instead of me trying to explain in words, I have found this great video on oyster production. It’s a quick five-minute video that I am sure you will find fascinating.
