Bunkys raw bar foodAfter being back up and running for a while now, we have released our most recent full menu. We were on a limited menu for a while during the Covid shutdown.

Our menu features your favorite oysters, chicken dishes, bites, bowls and sandwiches. Also, order our delicious grilled items like our seafood platters. 

Have you tried our seafood gumbo? It is magnifique! Fun Fact: Gumbo originates from Louisiana. As far back as the 18th century, settlers would put together whatever the catch of the day was together with already existing French soup recipes. The product developed over hundreds of years into modern day gumbo. 

Do you like Clam Chowder? We have delicious chowder. Fun Fact: Clam chowder traces its roots to the northeast where people would combine milk with clam broth. History of the Po’ Boy Sandwich

Try our Shrimp Po' BoyOne of our more popular items on the menu is the Po’ Boy Sandwich. Our Po’ Boy is your choice of fried shrimp or fried oysters on a toasted roll with house made remoulade, lettuce and tomato. This is a delicious sandwich and well worth trying. 

So how did this delicious sandwich get its name? The facts are not 100% concrete but there are some theories. As you may have guessed, the word Po’ is actually short for “poor”. The most accepted theory for the name is from a 1929 worker’s strike against the New Orleans street car company. Two brothers that used to work for the street car company named, Benny and Clovis Martin, ran a restaurant in the area. We Are Open! Come Dine In or Take Out!

We are open after covid-19 Corona virus lock downBunky’s is open and you can dine-in or take out. This is good news for the throngs of people who have been cooped up at home waiting until the quarantine period for Covid-19 to end.

You can rest assured that Bunky’s is maintaining a clean and sterile environment. We are also practicing safe social distancing with our dining room tables. All tables are at least 6 ft. apart. Our entire staff will be wearing face masks for extra protection.

We have curb-side pick-up and drinks to go. This has been a very popular feature during the stay-at-home order. People still love great food and great drinks, whether they are at home or across the street from the ocean. You can call to place your order now at 321-777-2526 (CLAM)

Do You Love Wings?

hot wings melbourne beachside floridaMany people know Bunky’s as the number one spot beachside to get fresh oysters. But did you you know that our wings are extremely popular?

Wings are the most popular appetizer in the United States. But they weren’t always. There was a time when wings were considered more or less the “leftover” of the chicken. When butchers would cut up the chicken, they would separate the thighs and breast and even the legs. But the wings, usually containing very little meat, were an afterthought.

Don’t get me wrong, people still ate the wings. But they were nothing like the delicious dish they are today. Specially prepared wings that we enjoy today are generally thought to have started with the “Buffalo wing”, so named because they were first offered in Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York in the year 1964. Check Out Sebastian Inlet

Visiting the area? Check out the Sebastian Inlet just south of here. Less than a thirty minute drive and you can see the beautiful inlet that was ranked one of the top piers in the entire state of Florida.

The area features fishing, camping, boating, jet skiing, kayaking and restaurants. The state park runs an area around the bridge that has parking and food. It also has a shallow water area that is safe for kids and is great to catch some rays.

More About Our Oysters

oysters sold in Melbourne FLOysters are the delicacy of the sea. In an early article, we discussed how oysters are raised. In this article I would like to share with you the type of oysters we offer and where they come from.

We offer three types of oysters for your eating pleasure:

Gulf Oysters

The Gulf that the name is referring to is the Gulf of Mexico. Some of the largest oyster reefs on the planet are in the Gulf and particularly off the coast of Louisiana. Most of the oysters consumed in the southern United States are Gulf Oysters, which is a strain of Eastern Oyster (Crassostrea virginica). The freshwater that runs down the Mississippi and meshes with the ocean creates a perfect salinity that is unique to the Gulf Oyster taste. [Read more…] about More About Our Oysters
